Remembering a Dear Friend

Innova Ideas & Services founder and creative spirit, Steve CohenOn this day 4 years ago, we lost a man very close to all of us here at Innova: founder, creative director, vice president and teammate Steve Cohen.

Without Steve, we wouldn't even be here today. Innova Ideas & Services was originally, well, his idea. It was one of his greatest acts of persuasion - convincing the owner of a printing company to open a fledgling ad agency 12 years ago - but it worked. And he continued to bring this incredible ability into every client meeting and brainstorm session for many years to follow.

Steve was a man whose mind never stopped, although you could always tell where he had stopped. Coffee cups, keys, BlackBerry, all would all be left around the building at random locations (often the bathroom). You couldn't blame him, though. Who has time for keeping track of these "things" when the next big idea could be right around the corner?!

Innova Ideas & Services was Steve Cohen's brainchild in 1998.Steve was insatiable for knowledge and an indomitable creative spirit. He learned Japanese for one of our first international clients. He'd break into "Jesus Christ Superstar" on business trips (which is even funnier knowing he grew up in Jewish household). He was a non-stop hobbyist who took frequent flights of fancy and you were thankful when he invited you to follow along.

Although Steve was Innova's founder, he was actually much more than that. He was a dear friend, larger than life personality, an industry advocate, our daily inspiration and a father figure to many of us who were just getting started.

He'd challenge you. He'd cajole you. He'd get the best work out of you, by whatever means possible. And when he approved of something you did, it meant more than any award you could earn in this industry.

We carry his torch with us today, helping causes that were close to his heart. An insatiable reader, we named our resource library after him. Passionate for helping people, we stage a food drive every year at this time in his honor. Always "on" creatively, we continue to seek out the kind of fresh, original ideas that would make Steve proud.

Steve Cohen was a constant paradox - part cowboy, part corporate.Sadly, the only thing that could stop him is also the same thing that took him from all of us. On Nov. 16, 2006, Steve Cohen passed away suddenly in his country home.

We would say you're probably still breaking barriers or breaking into song, wherever you are Steve - but we know you're still here at Innova, as well as with your family, friends and probably everyone you ever encountered.

Thanks for all that you gave us.

My Brother Steve

Great tribute to a great guy. We miss him every day and are proud that he has contributed to creating a legacy in the company and people at Innova. Our family sincerely appreciates the heartfelt sentiments experessed by his friends and the folks who have worked with Steve. I still laugh about crazy stuff with Steve all the time!

Dad

I really appreciate everything you said about my dad. He was all of what you said and more as a dad and a grandpa. I see his humor all the time in my kids. I know he is around and laughing with them, and probably at me as we go through our trials and tribulations that come along with raising children. I can only hope to be to my children what he was to me and my brother and sister. He was truly the best father that anyone could ask for, and I appreciate that you all at Innova are keeping his memories alive. By the way, I read all your posts on Facebook and laugh a lot. I can see why he loved Innova and everyone that works there...you seem to all be cut from the same mold. Thanks again, From the Wright family in Japan

He is VERY much missed!

He is VERY much missed!

Steve Cohen

Steve was all that you said and more. One might be amazed at the success of your company but when you consider that Steve was at the core of it all, it was little wonder. He was a true idea man who could see relationships between seemingly unrelated pieces of a puzzle. What's more, he could see the potential inside all of us. That made him more than a friend. For many of us, he was a mentor, a big brother, a kindred soul, a part of our lives that we will never forget, Thank you for remembering him this week.

Steve

Well written. Thanks for that. I was a fortunate person who was in Steve's personel life by default. As he would put it "We both married one of Them Halverson girls". Everytime we got together we had many moments of laughter, some serious what's happening at work talk, and some family talk. It was apparent how much passion Steve had for all of the above. It was fun to toss a problem out and see what creative, funny, then truely serious solution he would come up with all in one breath. His excited approach to solving a problem or learning something new was much like that of a child that just learned to walk. Pumped up and feeling it. No warning shots. Hang onto your hat. When Steve came into a room you new things just got more interesting and fun was just around the corner. I miss the private conversations we had as well as the fun we had when we got our familes together. I keep him in my thoughts often. Dave
