Live Big Creative #1: A Self-Cleaning House

Bookmark and Share

When we launched our new "Live Big" calendars last month, we asked for the biggest, baddest goals and wildest, unicorniest dreams on your personal wish list. We’d then re-interpret your contribution with an original creative piece — be it illustration, photo or macaroni art. Well, here’s one from our friend Liz, who said she dreams of “a self-cleaning house; kind of like the self-cleaning oven, but better smelling.”

This is a little story snippet and design mashup inspired by you, Liz!

Self-Cleaning House

Spring Cleaning

‘Hands-free housework!’ The salesman had said those words no fewer than 4 times in the half-hour sales pitch. It worked. It worked only too well.

Still, the boxes sat unopened for a month, like all the other “as seen on TV” temptations she had bought on a whim. But eventually the need for spring cleaning won the tug of war against the urge to put it off…

Well, let’s see what these things can do.

She plugged in the Whirlo vacuum and it went right to work, sucking up the dust bunnies and cat hair like a champ, all on its own. She didn’t have to lift a finger. But it also began swallowing up curtains and duvets without a hitch. He did say ‘unprecedented suction power.’

Thwwwp! There went an area rug. Hm, there must be a setting…

Then the Whirlo mops and brooms jumped into action. They formed a kickline, whipping up raging whirlpools and dust devils alternately. HEPA filters burst into flames and the dustpan and handbrush neatly cleaned up the ashes.

The house was in chaos. Sparkling, spot-free chaos. Wait, where’s the cat?

She knew she should have picked up the extended warranty.

Somewhere, you could hear the faint sounds of a cartoon mouse laughing.
