AMES, Iowa, July 6, 2011 – For the fifth consecutive year, Sigler Companies has been recognized by Greenstar Recycling for recycling excellence.

The 2010 recycling results include 898 total tons, 878 of which were paper recycling; the equivalent of 3,476 metric tons of carbon dioxide. This year’s figures bring the five-year total to nearly 4,200 tons of recycled material by the companies.

“As this award shows, each of our co-workers is informed and passionate about recycling as much material as we can,” said Beth Cross, president of Sigler Companies. “We see the positive impact our efforts make and will continue to be good environmental stewards.” According to Greenstar, Sigler Companies’ 2010 recycling efforts are equivalent to:

• Saving 14,934 trees from being cut down
• Removing 752 cars from the nation’s roads
• Eliminating the energy use of 109 households
• Saving 3,573 barrels of oil and 165,708 gallons of gasoline
• Preserving 2,963 cubic yards of landfill space.

Sigler Companies has established itself as a green printer through certification with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). Other green printing practices include concentric printing, a technology that uses 25 percent to 35 percent less ink than the traditional printing process, and adoption of inks free of volatile organic compounds (known as no-VOC or VOC-free inks). Co-workers throughout Sigler Companies’ multiple locations have enacted steps to help minimize energy consumption.
