Ames, IOWA, April 21, 2010 – For the fourth consecutive year, Sigler Companies has been recognized by Greenstar for the companies’ 2009 recycling efforts.

The 2009 recycling results include 768 total tons, 764 tons of which were paper recycling; the equivalent of 2,979 metric tons of carbon dioxide. This year's figures bring the four-year total to more than 3,300 tons of recycled material by the company.

“I believe this award, and other similar awards we’ve received over the past few years, are evidence of the positive steps our company is taking to be a good environmental steward,” said Beth Cross, president of Sigler Companies.

According to Greenstar, Sigler Companies’ 2009 recycling efforts are equivalent to:

• Removing 645 cars from the nation’s roads
• Eliminating the energy use of 94 households
• Saving 3,065 barrels of oil
• Saving 142,144 gallons of gasoline
• Preserving 1,536,000 cubic yards of landfill space

Sigler Companies has established itself as a green printer through certification with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). Other green printing practices include concentric printing, a revolutionary technology that uses 25-35 percent less ink than the traditional printing process, and adoption of inks free of volatile organic compounds (known as no-VOC or VOC-free inks). Offices throughout Sigler Companies have also taken energy and water conservation steps to help minimize their impact on the environment.

Employees have led the charge for green initiatives by forming the Sigler Companies Green Committee. The group researches and provides guidance on best practices in the workplace. As a committee, they work to make changes throughout the company on a continually broader scale. In addition, they send out weekly tips via electronic methods to help co-workers easily take eco-friendly steps at home.
